Sustainable Tourism

A paradigm shift that benefits the region

Since 2026, the Pfyn-Finges Nature Park has been committed to regenerative tourism. It is testing the regenerative approach as part of a pilot project and, in collaboration with a section of the nature park, is developing a regenerative tourism offering that has a positive impact on nature and local communities.

Sustainable tourism aims to reduce the negative impacts of tourism. The regenerative approach goes one step further and aims to leave destinations in better condition than they were originally. It seeks not only to reduce the damage caused by tourism activities but also to actively and comprehensively contribute to the regeneration of natural, social, and cultural resources.

Development of Regenerative Tourism Offerings

The Pfyn-Finges Nature Park is committed to regenerative tourism offerings and supports its partners in developing them. To this end, it commissioned HES-SO Valais-Wallis and launched a participatory project in January 2026.

Following a call for participation, Leuk was selected as the pilot region. This was followed by an analysis of the town and its potential, as well as the organization of two participatory workshops involving Leuk Tourism. Participants identified three priority areas. These were compared to international, regenerative tourism offerings using a benchmark. The project ultimately selected is related to volunteer tourism and is currently being developed.
