Petit Bois

From vines to local recreation area

The vineyard next to the "Petit-Bois" forest, south of Sierre railroad station, was renaturalized and ecologically enhanced in 2022/23. The old vines were removed and planted with native shrub and tree species adapted to the location. With their abundance of flowers, flower meadows provide food for many animals such as wild bees and butterflies. Small structures such as piles of stones, dead wood or heaps of branches provide suitable shelter. The orchard meadow (high-stem fruit trees with a flower meadow) complements the various valuable habitats. On the newly created nature areas, humorous boards point out design options and further information is available via QR code. The "Petit-Bois" is now a meeting zone that invites visitors to linger and discover. It is a prime example of the promotion of biodiversity in urban areas and of the strong cooperation between the individual partners.

Promoting nature in urban areas

Every year, public areas are redesigned together with motivated nature park communities. The nature park communities benefit from the expertise and work of the office team. They are supported with advice, coordination and construction management.

Private individuals and businesses can contact the Nature Park office for a free initial consultation. Interested companies are also supported in obtaining the "Nature and Economy" Foundation label for their nature areas.
