With its remarkable plumage, the hoopoe is a fascinating bird. It is also a rare inhabitant of our cultivated landscapes. To preserve and promote its population in the Valais, there are a number of ways to take action.
Every action counts, whether it's hanging a nesting box, creating nature-friendly gardens or supporting our projects. After all, a safe nesting place isn't enough - you also need a suitable habitat: open spaces on the ground, landscapes rich in structure, hedges, fruit trees and respectful, pesticide-free farming.
The Pfyn-Finges Nature Park is committed to helping the hoopoe through targeted measures?
- planting and maintaining high-stem orchards, pollarded willows, walnut trees and other isolated trees,
- promotion of extensive grazing and differentiated maintenance mowing,
- maintenance of dead wood piles and other small structures,
- restoration of dry-stone walls, including the installation of nesting boxes,
- promoting species-rich meadows and garden areas as close as possible to natural environments,
- organizing excursions, biotope maintenance days and advice on garden design.
Would you like to get involved? Then take part in one of our actions, make your garden bird-friendly or support us with a donation. Your contribution will go directly towards concrete measures for the conservation of the hoopoe.
Together, we can make a difference. Get involved!
