Since 2020, the LBB (Landschaftspflege - Bevölkerungsschutz - Biodiversität) enhancement project has been implemented on the land of the certified Bio-Suisse farm agriBratsch GmbH. The project is an example of how population protection, the promotion of biodiversity and sustainable agriculture can go hand in hand.
Targeted ecological landscape management creates valuable habitats for plants and animals. At the same time, the maintenance measures make an important contribution to population protection, as the regularly managed areas prevent scrub encroachment and thus sanding. This significantly reduces the risk of fire and the corresponding fire load, which is becoming increasingly important in times of increasing droughts.
Pilot project for intelligent irrigation
Another focus of the project is the responsible use of water. The aim is to develop irrigation solutions that meet the needs of both agriculture and natural resources in order to save valuable drinking water.
Together with HydroMontania, a pilot project was therefore launched to demonstrate new approaches to irrigation. By installing and operating a fully automated, demand-controlled irrigation system, water can be used in a targeted and resource-saving manner. Between 2025 and 2028, this project will be a central component of the LBB enhancement project.
The innovative combination of biodiversity promotion, landscape conservation, civil protection and climate-adapted irrigation is also attracting attention beyond the region: the project is presented as an example in the factsheet "Shaping Switzerland in the face of climate change - securing landscape services for people and the environment" published by the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT).
