Nature Park Trail: Jeizinen - Leuk - Sierre
A landscape as wide as the world.
The Jeizinen - Leuk - Sierre nature park trail combines everything that makes a nature park:
Exceptional landscapes, historic village centres and impressive views of the Rhone Valley.
The trail leads from Jeizinen - Erschmatt - Leuk-Stadt - Varen - Salgesch to Sierre. In other words, right through the Pfyn-Finges Nature Park and on the sunny side of the Rhone Valley
Between Erschmatt and Leuk there are boulders, these large granite and gneiss rocks line the route like stranded ships.
This route also takes you past the site of a forest fire above Leuk, where 300 hectares of forest burned down in August 2003. Two decades after the fire, grass has literally grown over the charred mountain flank. Young poplars, willows and birches are now growing there in large numbers.
Even mountains have their weak points. This is particularly recognizable on the Illgraben. The impressive rock faces - the "gateway to hell" - stand in stark contrast to the green, wooded slopes of the Rhone Valley.
The Illgraben is the largest and most active erosion funnel in the Alps. Several times a year, the small Illbach stream turns into a wild mudflow, a very dense torrent of mud that can carry stone blocks weighing several tonnes.
Several landslides occurred above Salgesch 10,000 years ago. The large, clearly visible limestone slab that crosses the Varnersuone and Mengissuone rivers is the visible sliding surface of this landslide.
The hills of Salgesch, Sierre and Granges are made of this landslide material and give the region of Sierre its poetic character.
A landscape as wide as the world.

At the waypoints indicated, you have the opportunity to read the weird, freely invented stories at the respective locations: ... hot burnt forest, yawning Grand Canyon and neurotic boulders.

"When the relief becomes a dragon, the rocks get restless, the glacier grumbles and the people do what they can...". A funny and creative story set in the nature park with the famous Professor Sartouche (Bernard Sartoretti).
The stories of Professeur Sartouche (Bernard Sartoretti) are only available in French.
