People work alongside nature. Out of this, a variety of cultivated plants have emerged and continue to evolve today. We will show you the plants and how people use them. You can only experience this in Erschmatt.
The species garden in Erschmatt is home to ancient cultural plants which are no longer planted anywhere else but are part of the biological diversity and history of the area, and are therefore worthy of preservation.
Well-known plants such as Valais rye, barley, broad beans are just as well represented as millet and buckwheat, nutritional plants that used to be cultivated in Switzerland. Furthermore, rarer plants such as corn cockle, spring adonis, hare's ear, fennel flower, delphiniums etc are also cultivated here.
