The sunny, warm and dry conditions in the vineyards of the Pfyn-Finges Nature Park provide an ideal habitat for rare and specialized species such as the hoopoe. This charismatic bird finds food and nesting opportunities here, provided there are enough structures close to the natural state.
To promote biodiversity in the vineyards, the Nature Park is focusing on targeted ecological measures: native shrubs, hedges and tall fruit trees are planted, flower meadows are sown, wood and stone heaps are created and dry stone walls are restored. These improvements support the close-to-nature management of wine-growing areas and create new habitats. The focus is on rare bird species such as the Hoopoe, the Woodlark and the Zizi Sparrow. At the same time, many other plant and animal species benefit from these measures.
The Pfyn-Finges Nature Park contains around 20% of the canton's wine-growing area. It therefore plays a central role in promoting biodiversity in the vineyards. With the support of the Swiss Ornithological Institute, the Nature Park advises interested winegrowers on the planning and implementation of measures to promote biodiversity. For owners of vineyards that are no longer in use, we also offer biodiversity-friendly management and enhancement solutions.
