In the heart of the Valais, this region's first nature park boasts a wealth of rare natural phenomena, packed into a very small area. Between Sierre and Gampel, you will find Pfyn-Finges Forest, one of the largest pine forests in the Alps, as well as a steppe-like landscape and vegetation reminiscent of primeval forests. There are also ponds, biotopes for many different types of birds (including some very rare species) and flower meadows with a rich variety of plants, not to mention idyllic mountain villages and historic little towns. The wild Rhone and the Illgraben, the largest "slide" in the world, also contribute to the region's very special character. This makes it a unique place both to live in and to visit.
