6 DIVERSE TERRACED LANDSCAPE AND VARIETIES

The genetic variability both between and within species allows nature to respond to changing environmental conditions and adapt accordingly. Often, only those species that can adapt sufficiently quickly to the new conditions survive. Genetic diversity therefore provides a kind of "insurance" for the continuation of a species or population. For us humans, the diversity of varieties of cereals, fruit and grapes is therefore enormously valuable and should be preserved.

From here, the terraced landscape of the Valais vineyards can be seen at its best. The small, mosaic-like interlaced plots are typical of the local vineyards and are home to a variety of different grape varieties, some of which are only grown in Valais. This mosaic landscape, combined with the high genetic diversity of grape varieties, also promotes biodiversity through the richness of the different structures

Ask about the different old varieties in a wine cellar in the village and experience the diversity of wine with all your senses.
