From the cantonal protection resolution to the regional nature park - the milestones here in an overview:

 

1997

Cantonal protection resolution for the forest of Pfyn/Finges

1998

Letters of intent from the “Pfyn Municipalities” Sierre, Salgesch, Varen and Leuk

1999

ETHZ baseline report

2000

Founding of the association “Lebens- und Erlebnisraum Pfyn-Finges” (LER Pfyn-Finges - Pfyn-Finges living and adventure area)

2001

Appointment of 3 Animateurs-Gardiens
Start of the first Regio Plus Project (Design of a cantonal nature park)
Design of wide range of tourist facilities

2003

Presentation of the second Regio Plus application to the seco
(Recognition as a park of national importance)

2004

State Council homologates the tourist development concept (TEK) prepared by the LER
Submission of the second Regio Plus application to the seco

2005

Valais cantonal parliament recognises the 1st Valais Pfyn-Finges Nature Park and thus completes the first Regio Plus project
Inauguration of the Bhutan bridge

2006

Information to all potential park municipalities about the second Regio Plus project
Preparation of a feasibility study for the regional nature park

2007 Opening of the Nature and Landscape Centre
2008

Establishment of the working groups
Drafts of the major projects and completion of the candidacy dossier

2009

Submission of the candidacy dossier “Pfyn-Finges Regional Nature Park” to the Federal Government and thus the start of the construction phase
Recognition as a candidate for a regional nature park of national importance

2011 Inaugural meetings of the park municipalities approve the park contract
2012

Submission of definitive candidacy “Pfyn-Finges Regional Nature Park”

2013

As from January 1, the Pfyn-Finges Nature Park has the label from the Federal Office for the Environment (BAFU) as a Regional Nature Park of National Importance

2014

Cooperation with the tourist associations: Collective panorama map over the whole park perimeter

2019 Votes communities
2023 New operating phase as Pfyn-Finges Regional Nature Park with 13 communes (Sierre, Crans-Montana and all communes of the Leuk district - except Ergisch)
