Valais is home to a wide variety of wild animals. However, we know very little about their occurrence and distribution. The "Wild Neighbors Valais" project aims to change this.
Wallis.wildenachbarn.ch provides information about the biology and way of life of wild animals. The focus is on those that can also be found in urban areas. The website provides information on how to promote and protect them, as well as observation tips and activities for the public. They can, for example, enter their own wildlife observations via the app or on the website.
The focus in 2022 is on snails. They are of great importance to nature. The "recycling professionals" cut up, swallow and digest organic material to convert it into humus. Their mucus improves the fertility of the soil and they are a source of food for many animals.
Find out more about these species-rich survival artists and take part in the 'Totally out of your shell' campaign. Collect empty snail shells in good condition - no more than 10 per location. Send them to the Valais Nature Museum in Sion by December 31, 2022 with the completed form.
