Rilke museum - Rilke Foundation Maison de Courten in Sierre

Museum / Exhibition

Rilke museum

In 1987 the Rilke Foundation moved into the Maison Pancrace de Courten in Sierre and set up their museum.

The elegant Patrician house was completed in 1769 and is maintained in authentic French style. It was built by Jean-Antoine-Adrien de Courten (1725-1803), the last Colonel of the Valais Regiment serving the French. Its name today comes from his heir, the Count Pancrace (1774-1845).

The Rilke Foundation organises exhibitions, lectures, reading and concerts most of which are connected with the life and works of the poet. Besides the permanent exhibition about Rilke's years in the Valais (1921-1926), themed exhibitions and sculptures from a variety of other artists are also on display.
