On Sunday, April 13, the "Begegnung am Trog" trail was officially opened with over 100 people in attendance.
Along the village street of Agarn, you can now watch 3 short videos (LINK) with exciting anecdotes and legends about the significance of the troughs.
You will meet local Agarn historians German Lötscher and Arthur Meichtry. Susanne Hugo will also tell you a local water legend at each trough.
For centuries, troughs have shaped social life in the Upper Valais - including in Agarn. People mainly worked at the trough, but also "ghängärtut". In 2023, the nature park municipality of Agarn installed new benches at the "Morguwiichil", "Kapälluwiichil" and "Märitschuwiichil" district troughs, making a strong statement: The troughs in Agarn are to become meeting places again!
With the support of the Pfyn-Finges Nature Park, the municipality has been working on the valorization of the troughs since spring 2024. Municipal councillor Martin Plaschy and Armin Christen, head of the "Environmental Education/Regional Identity" department at Pfyn-Finges Nature Park, have set themselves the task of implementing this in the best possible way.
The result is a project that combines various elements: the trough takes center stage and tells its story and anecdotes through panels - whether set to music by German Lötscher, Susanne Hugo or Arthur Meichtry. The two village designers Franz Roten and Heinz Hofmann have created a playful approach to the troughs: a set of scales is used to track our current water consumption.
