Steppes
Steppes are areas of grassland with billowing grasses. Steppe vegetation thrives in the hottest, driest locations, on stony ground and even on rock. This habitat is a special feature of the sunny slopes of Valais and Grisons. For those from other regions, it is like entering a whole new world with completely different kinds of vegetation. The climate, plants and diversity of species here are reminiscent of the great steppes of continental Asia.
