Learn the art of bread-making and visit the "Sortengarten Erschmatt" |
|
The "Sortengarten Erschmatt" (Erschmatt Biodiversity Gardens) provides a home for old, cultivated plants, which are now planted practically nowhere else, with the important aim of preserving biological diversity. Well-known cultivars such as Valais rye, barley and broad beans (s. roten Text unten) can be found in the gardens along with millet and buckwheat, food crops that were once grown in Switzerland.
Rye, in particular, has left a clear mark on the Valais menu. Today, rye bread continues to be a staple in the heart of the Alps - reason enough to try your hand at bread making! Why not become a baker for a day?
