In a hilly landscape in the heart of pine woodland, a plateau rises up from the ground, with pastureland and fruit trees: Milljeren. The traditional methods of farming here on small parcels of land, the lush grassland and the irrigation channels promote a wealth of flora and fauna and enhance the quality of the agricultural produce.
This is a place to visit in June, when the sage is in bloom. You may get to see the hoopoe fly off or hear the call of the Eurasian wryneck. You can also observe the flight of the marbled white, heath fritillary or peacock butterfly, which like to visit the knapweeds and pincushion flowers. You can also hear the field crickets and grasshoppers, which provide the background music for a summer's day. Maybe you will even encounter a red- or blue-winged grasshopper.
Please treat the pastureland with respect and do not disturb the animals (cattle, farm birds)! Please keep your dog on a leash, as well!
