No culture exists without its own traditions! The traditions of Valais are many and varied and lend the different regions their specific character. There is a wealth of tradition and culture to discover, from old crafts and trades to folk songs, all the way to the fine nuances of the Valais dialects, whose particular characteristics mean that they can be traced to individual communities.
Some of the organizations striving to preserve these traditions are:

Dry stone walling
The Massettu project of the "Grünes Zimmer Agarn" foundation is concerned with the building of dry stone walls. The municipality of Leuk has delineated in its area plan some "dry stone wall zones" where these walls are to be preserved. The "Vitis antiqua" project also aims to preserve the dry stone walls in a whole area next to Leuk-Stadt. In addition to the handing down of and training in the skills of this traditional craft, new technologies are also being investigated. Thus, some people are currently looking at the option of stabilizing dry stone walls using modern technology.
