Reptiles

Reptilien8-Aeskluapa Reptiles are not as old as amphibians. They can be easily recognized with their dry, scaly skin. During the Mesozoic Era, they dominated the earth for 100 million years. Some grew to an immense size, while others developed wings and became the first vertebrates to conquer the skies. They were also the forbearers of the more highly-developed, warm-blooded mammals and birds. Amphibians and reptiles are poikilothermic, meaning that their body temperature varies with the ambient temperature. They require heat to be active and therefore prefer sunny locations. If the temperature drops suddenly to below zero degrees, they fall into a motionless state. They can survive for months without food when in this state.
