Dragonflies
insekten46

Of all the insects that inhabit the ponds and canals of Pfyn-Finges Forest, those in the Odonata order of insects - the dragonflies - are without a doubt the most elegant and the easiest to observe. Who hasn't walked along the waterside on a beautiful day and spotted these graceful, delicate creatures on a reed leaf with their glittering, slim bodies in sky blue, emerald green or ruby red? Who hasn't admired the exuberant flight of the larger species, of these powerful airborne creatures performing acrobatic feats for hours on end, moving backwards and forwards in suspension over the water, darting off suddenly like lightning, only to then hover in the same spot, seemingly motionless? The wild chases, the breathtaking zigzags? Every genus and indeed every species has particular requirements in terms of the environment. This makes these magnificent insects valuable indicators of both water and air quality.
