1997 : Cantonal resolution on protection of the region
1998 : Declaration of intent of the "Pfyn-Finges municipalities" of Sierre, Salgesch, Varen and Leuk
1999 : Baseline report of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich
2000 : Founding of the "Pfyn-Finges Residential and Recreational Area Association" (LER Pfyn-Finges)
2001 : Appointment of 3 "guide-wardens"
Commencement of the first "Regio Plus" project (creation of cantonal nature park)
Creation of a wide range of tourist facilities and services
2003 : Presentation of the second "Regio Plus" project to the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) (for recognition as a park of national significance)
2004
: Cantonal government approves the tourism development proposal drawn up by LER
Submission of the second "Regio Plus" application to SECO
2005 : The parliament of the canton of Valais recognizes the first Valais nature park of Pfyn-Finges and thereby finalizes the first "Regio Plus" project
Opening of the Bhutan bridge
2006 : Information provided to all potential nature park municipalities on the second "Regio Plus" project
Drawing up of feasibility study for the Regional Nature Park
2007
: Opening of the Nature and Landscape Centre
Commencement of the project planning phase with the creation of project groups comprised of representatives of the interested municipalities and decision-making about strategy and further courses of action
2008 : Setting up of working groups
Elaboration of main projects and completion of candidature dossier
2009 : 9 January: submission of the candidature dossier for the Pfyn-Finges Regional Nature Park to the federal authorities and with that the commencement of the set-up phase
27 August: recognition as a candidate for a regional nature park of national significance
